Title: The Wizard's Dilemma (Book Five of the Young Wizard series)
Author: Diane Duane
Pages: 539
Level: Young Teen
Rating: 14+ (romance, death)
Plot:
Kit and Nita have been having problems. While working on a set of wizardry they can't seem to agree on how it really should be. While Kit is out walking his dog Ponch, his finds that he can enter no matter -- and can create new universes. He tries to get in touch with Nita, who has her own problems to deal with; she just found out that her mom has a brain tumor. Nita starts a set of training in hopes of fixing it with her magic, and Kit continues to train his own power. What will they do?
Thoughts:
I love the Transcendent Pig, I really do. (My thought is that's actually a shape "The One" has taken so he can go where and when he wants without having to worry about people over reacting to him.) I also liked how she tackled such a serious matter. Although, I don't think this book was enjoyable as the others. I still want more between Kit/Nita, but sadly, still nothing.
Title: High Wizardy (Book Three in the Young Wizards series)
Author: Diane Duane
Pages: 280
Level: Young Teen
Rating: 12+
Plot:
Nita's little sister has always been too smart for her own good, but this time she might have gone too far. However, Dairine is distracted by the arrival of her new computer. However, while she's setting it up she accedently creates an exact replica. Thinking quickly, she hides the second one in another form of space, to retreave later.
After she's sent into the city with Nita and Kit, she hides in the bathroom, and retreaves the computer, deciding to take a jaunt to Mars -- thus starting her Wizard Ordeal. Once Nita finds out, she and Kit are sent after her to help out as they can.
Thoughts:
The computer!!! Oy, the computer *weeps with horror* it's so OLD!!!
I actually didn't like this one as much. I mean, it was great to see Dairine's thoughts and the reason WHY she's always trying to be so smart, but over all, I didn't like it as much. I mean, things like the fact that K&N help Dairine on her wizards ordeal bugs me. It seemed to me those were supposed to be the type of tests that you couldn't get help on. Granted the important part of the main conflict they don't help with, but still.
Title: The Otherworldlies
Author: Jennifer Anne Kogler
Pages: 383 (may change)
Level: Young teen
Rating: 8+
Basic Plot:
Fern has always been different. Her first set of teeth were a set of sharp canines. When she wakes up in the morning, she has to wear sunglasses so her eyes can wake up as well, and most days if she's out in the sunlight her body turn into one giant blister. Because of this she's "freaky fern" around her private school, and even the princaple doesn't like her.
Her entire world is turned upside durning class one day. She's sitting at her desk, reading a copy of "Lord of the Flies", imagining what it's like to be on the beach, when suddenly the entire world goes black. When she can finally see again, she's on the beach where her family goes to visit every once in a while. A crazy beach bum tells her he's been waiting for her, and to go into a cave. When she does she finds a strage room in the back that she hasn't seen before.
After this her life is turned upside down, and between having a hard time controlling when she teleports, to finding out there's a prophesy hanging over her head that she'll defeat a man who thinks he's the next Dracula, the only good thing is finding out she's not the only one, and actually having a friend. But what is the deal with everyone else?
Thoughts:
The books was really hard to get into at first. By page 17 I think the author had forshadowed that Fern wasn't going to be going home from school in the usual way at least three or four times. There's a bit too much world building at the beginning as well. However once she actually gets into the plot it's pretty good. There's a scene at one point where Fern does something and her new friend doesn't understand, and it's really realistic reaction for 12 year old girls. However, there's a lot of things that they have to look up on the internet that I think most kids their age would know already (such as what teleporting is). Over all the book is okay. It would be great for someone around the age of the characters to read.
It was annouced today that the Presedent of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) Gordon B. Hinkley died today at 7 p.m. at his house. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones.
This man did many great things for our church, such as building more temples than any other Pres. has done. He also was famious for a while because he agreed to be interviewed on national tv.
I hope that he rests well, and knows we all loved and will miss him.
Title: Mistborn: The Final Empire
Author: Brandon Sanderson
Pages: 541
Level: Teen-Adult
Rating: 15+ (Swearing, Extreme Volence, Hinting of Rape)
Basic Plot:
The book starts by introducing you to the world, a place where there's an under people who are treated worse than slaves. Then you learn about Vin, who is a sixteen year old teen who lives with a theving crew. She's extremely untrusting, and nervious. Her crewleader has her come with him to try and do a scam, so she'll use her "luck" to push the guy into doing what they want.
This magic system is one of the most unique ones I've ever seen. You can do diffrent things -- controlling emotions, see the future, move objects and yourself -- by "burning" metals. You get to see both the advantages and disadvantages of magic.
There are quite a few gruseum points to the book, one of the main being the idea of the Inquisitors. There is also a lot of killing without a second thought, and prejudices.
It's a really easy book to read. As with his first book, when I read it I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. I had gone to a release party where he said he liked to do suprise endings, and thought he might have over done it with this book. However, I disagree. In this book I saw very little of what was going to happen, and the twist at the end ASTOUNDED ME!
There is one part that is extreamly sad, and of course the first time I bawled my eyes out. I re-read it for a second time at the beginning of this week, and I cried yet again, which highly impressed me because I usually don't cry the second time since I'm expecting it.
I can't wait for the next two books in the series to come out. While the end of the book was satisfying, it still left the universe wide open for more. (I've also been told this book will have a nice twist added to it, which I can't wait to see the results)
Extras:
You can read the first three chapters and the prolog here. You can also read the author's thoughts on the book. Brandon Sanderson has also created a wallpaper inspired by the trilogy which you can find here.
Okay, so there's going to be a change in plans from now on. Rather than me using this strictly for quiz posts, I'm going to be using it for reviews of all of the books that I read, so I have a place to send people to when they want my suggestions.
You'll see the first one soon.
Okay, so I'm sitting here going through deviantart, and I've decided I'm going to create a list of movies I think every single person should see at least once in their life. I have seen all of them, and love the plots. (And yes, a lot of them are my all time faves. I wouldn't suggest it if I didn't like it would I?)
Some of these may be a movie that has to do with a series, in which case I also suggest you watch the series, but I'll try to avoid those.
These aren't in any order, just as they come to my mind I'm writing them in.
Mirrormask
Dark Crystal
Labyrinth
Slipper and the Rose
Theif and the Cobler
Lady and the Highwayman
Court Jester
A Fairy Tale
Almost Human
Teen Witch
Anything by Mayazaki
Tristian and Islode
Neverending Story
Exclaibur
Rigaletto
Lord of the Dance
Princess Bride
Any version of "The Nutcracker" which actually explains how the prince became a nutcracker
Clue
As much Sheakspear as you can handle
The Last Unicorn
Thorn Birds
Okay, so that's all I can think of for right now. But it will continue to grow as I think of them... and will stop growing when it's perfect, I'm dead, or I forget about the account that I've posted it to. (The last two of which are the more likely choices.) If you haven't seen any of these, go out and rent them or download them. (You can't download Slipper, nor would I let you. It's a super old one that doesn't get enough credit, so I tell everyone to put money into it so it will get the support it deserves. The others... well, I'm sure you'd love them enough to buy them after you had gotten them.)
Seriously though, go watch these. There's a bit of pure romantic stuff (Slipper), sad sad stuff (Tristan and Ilsode), pure fluffy funny (Clue, Theif and the Cobler), and some stuff I doubt you've seen but I know you'd love (MirrorMask). Oh, and be forwarned that Exclaibur is slightly... not child meant. Lots of fighting, lots of gore, and my mum previewed it and told me when to just skip to the next scene. Other than that, great movie.
Okay, so I'm having issues with this thing... it's not giving me the option of copying the code into everything, so I'm having to copy the pics and paste them in. Forgive? If you want to take the quiz, click on the pic, I've made those links.
un-coded quizes:
The Fat Friar is the ghost of the Hufflepuff house. He is extremely kind; enjoying life (or death, I should say!) and everything in it. Always the life of the party and a good friend, the Fat Friar is impossible not to like.
----------------------------------------
Harry Potter
You are most like Harry Potter. You are always one to stand up for your friends and to do the right thing, even if it means breaking the rules. Courageous, brave, and friendly, Harry is one outstanding person. Once you accept him for who he is and see him as a person instead of a celebrity, he is your friend for life. You are the type of person that paves your own trail in life, despite having extreme bad and good luck. Yes, good luck can be hard to deal with. Whatever comes in life though, you will adapt and remain strong.
(I can honestly say I didn't expect that. I've always thought I was most like herms.)
----------------------------------------
Being Psychic is your anime fantasy. You live in a house free from distraction so your mind can be opened to worlds beyond. You only eat what you have to stay alive, because your mind is preoccupied with other matters. You fall for anyone you can connect with mentally. You are blessed with the powers of seeing the future, reading minds, seeing and communicating with ghosts, telepathy (communicating with thought), telekinesis (moving objects with just your mind) and just plain knowing stuff that there is no way you could have known.
----------------------------------------
You are an all-around great mortal girl and you are free from the mess goddesses tend to make of their lives. Life is easy and free for you, and you are a joy to those around you. Though not as powerful as the goddesses, you love your mortal life

You like to hide who you really are. You wear black often and you dont like to be around people. You are usually ina depressing mood and cause others around to become depressed.
----------------------------------------
You are the Alice 19th romance. You both love each other soo much you cant describe it. You have some jelousy complications but you try your best to ignore them. this is like a Forbidden love. Evn tho, you would do anything to see each other!! <33
----------------------------------------
Empathy- Your inner power is Empathy! This means that you have a talent for identifying others emotions, often by simply glancing at them. You are EXTREMELY shy and quiet. People sometimes dont notice youre around and seem surprised to find out you even exist in a big class. Youre the often silent, goody two shoes, and few get passed the walls youve built up to stop yourself being hurt, as you no doubt have been in the past. Not everyone understands you, in fact some think that youre a snob or worse because you rarely participate in group activities. Youre extremely sensitive, even the least harsh of words can hurt you. Only your very few, closest friends who have earned your hard-to-get trust know who you really are inside; a sweet, gentle young woman who is lonely and so desperately needing friends to support you. You can get very depressed and not always know why, despite your power of empathy, as it seems to only work for people outside you. Your friends always turn to you when they need advice or comforting, and in some way you need to give that helpit makes you feel better in return to know that youve helped out your friends. Despite your cold, impassive exterior and high, seemingly unbreachable walls, inside you are really a great, intelligent person, full of compassion and love, if only people would dare take a chance and try to get through your tough shell. Never let others get you down, or change you. You are very special the way you areeven if you dont have fifty thousand friends, you are just as, if not more extraordinary than everyone else. Reach for the stars, because I dont doubt youll catch hold of them.
Boy/Girl who will sweep you off your feet: A sweet, shy and romantic man/woman. The kind of guy/woman you know will never, ever hurt you, and will love you for ever. The kind of person who believes in true love, and soul mates.
Your stone: Blue Topaz
Your power: Healing. Emotionally, physically, or spiritually, you heal people with your words, your actions and presence. Youre the one that the little children are always drawn to, because they know youll never let anything hurt them.
Your element: Clairvoyance (The power to see objects or events that cannot be perceived by the normal five senses.)
A quote that applies to you: "True beauty shines from the soul and warms the world with its kindness, compassion , and integrity."

I'd like to appologize to anyone who talks to me or knows me. Expecially right now... I'm going through some really deep thinking about who I am and the way that I behave currently, and you may be seeing a major change in the way I act in the very near future.
This is mostly in a direct result of a lot of people really not liking the main part of me, and being forced to face this fact (yet again) and trying to fight it and change it. I usually fail, and give up and then go back to the way I was, but trust me, I'm going to try my hardest this time, because as I see it no one really likes it... they all pretend to, but they really don't.
If you know me even half-way well, I'm sure you can guess what I'm talking about. If you know me well... I'm beyond sure you can guess... I just... I want to change.
I don't know how else to discribe it. My thoughts aren't very coherant right now... and of course you'll be able to tell how everything turns out... wish me luck. (Although whether it's to be able to change or not I've not the foggiest.)
Okay, so as many of you who know me know (which, very few do... like, maybe two) I absolutely love fantasy stuff... mostly books. And one of my top five Author is Brandon Sanderson. He's kind of local, but dang can he write!!!
Well, right now he's got a book posted on his website (clickie-clickie here to start reading the book. It's compleatly free, and just as good as his other two.) which I of course jumped on the chance to read... and am now very frustrated about. You see, one of the great things about his writing is that he really sucks you in, and has lots of plot twists that YOU NEVER SEE COMING. And this last chapter (as all good chapter endings do) left you at a piviotal point, and you're freaking out!!!
I now can't freaking wait for his next post so I can freaking read the next thing. (Although, knowing my luck it will be from Blushweaver's PoV about the freaking war. :P on him if it is!) Anywho, that's enough of my rant... although you guys really should read his work. It's so beyond amazing it's not even funny!
*alert* potter puppet pals has a new piece out!!!!!!!!!!! *super squee alert* Hee hee hee... I love it!!! XP "Snaperdoodles"!!!! XP :D:D:D:D If you want to check it out you can find it here:
http://community.livejournal.com/potterp
I can't wait to see what else they'll do. And I want one of those puppets dang it!!! They're so cute!!!!!!!!!! Or a shirt (I nearly got three of them, but they sold out too fast... *Pout*) or... well, pretty much anything I could get... hee hee... *blush*
In other news, the new OotP stills are out, and can be found here:
http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808475612/p
I so wish I could find out what some of those scene were for sure!!!
Anywho, off to post the news in DeviantArt. (Most likely copy and paste truth be told.)
Okay, so I doubt any of you will actually try this, but here's a sweet game you can play... and I bet you can't figure out how it works. (I know... tee hee)
Drat!!! The actual post thing isn't working... I'll have to give you a link to the site:
http://www.i-am-bored.com/bored_link.cf
I am making an FFR level based on the song Phantom of the Opera. I think it's going really well... and if any of you want to play it when I get done, you're welcome to... I hope you like it! *looks hopeful*
How do you handle Embarassment?
You use humor to shake off embarrassing situations (even when you're dying inside) and help other people recover, too. Not that you won't snort milk when your BFF drops her tray in the caf! But, hey, at least you deflected the attention away from her and onto you! Kudos for your confidence and charm, girl!
What type of style do you have?
Fashion Freestyler. Good for you! You seem to have found the perfect balance between fashion and personal style. If you like what's in style, you wear it. But you are sooooo not wearing leggings just because they’re in this fall. That said, it’s always fun to experiment. Don’t be afraid to try new looks and give them your own spin. Confidence is always in style.
What type of Rocker are you?
You cringe at even being labeled a PUNK, because labels just aren't cool. But there's no denying the truth. Clothes are not that big of a deal to you, and black eyeliner is the only cosmetic touch-up you carry with you. You crush on all the indie power-pop bands, even though you think a few of them are poseurs. (Hey, they're better than boy bands!) You'd spend every night in an underground club if you could, and the sound of an electric guitar makes you giddy. You'd rather wear boy boxers than a thong. Guys are great as long as they don't try to dictate your life and pizza beats a fancy restaurant any day. You believe you can get what you want by being yourself and that's exactly what you’ll do.
How Star-Struck are you?
You sometimes have your famous guy on your mind a bit too often, but you keep the reality of the situation in check. Occasional daydreaming about your crush is harmless, as long as it doesn’t interfere with your schoolwork or other important activities. You seem to see the big picture and seem to realize that there are thousands of fans out there, just like you. You don’t let your crush come between you and your everyday life, so it seems as though you can have your cake and eat it, too. You can keep your crush, but don’t get too starry-eyed!
----------------------------------------
I've decided that you all can ask me questions. Anything at all, and I'll answer it!!! Just post it in a comment...
I'm just kind of testing my newest program... *crosses fingers* wish me luck and let me hope it works. If it does, I'll let you all know what it is and how to get it... if it doesn't, then I won't. Logical, no?
Ha ha!!! It looks like it did!!! I am currently using Window Live Writer (Beta). It's this wonderful little program that is letting me blog. Now if only I could figure out how to freaking let me connect to my opendiary accounts I'd be super duper happy. I would love to use this thing for writing stories things in my firstRainbowRose account!
Also, I would love to figure out how to get this American Girls Premiere thing to save in a format that ISN'T .ply. If I could figure that out I'd be making some SWEET fan mvs. *cries* But I can't... *super pout*
