Title: The Wizard's Dilemma (Book Five of the Young Wizard series)
Author: Diane Duane
Pages: 539
Level: Young Teen
Rating: 14+ (romance, death)

Plot:

Kit and Nita have been having problems.  While working on a set of wizardry they can't seem to agree on how it really should be.  While Kit is out walking his dog Ponch, his finds that he can enter no matter -- and can create new universes.  He tries to get in touch with Nita, who has her own problems to deal with; she just found out that her mom has a brain tumor.  Nita starts a set of training in hopes of fixing it with her magic, and Kit continues to train his own power.  What will they do?

Thoughts:

I love the Transcendent Pig, I really do.  (My thought is that's actually a shape "The One" has taken so he can go where and when he wants without having to worry about people over reacting to him.)  I also liked how she tackled such a serious matter.  Although, I don't think this book was enjoyable as the others.  I still want more between Kit/Nita, but sadly, still nothing.

Title: A Wizard Abroad (Book Four in the Young Wizards series)
Author: Diane Duane
Pages: 296
Level: Young Teen
Rating: 13+ (romantic involvement that some younger audiences might not appricate)

Plot:

Nita's parents have decided that her and Kit are spending way too much time together, so they decide they're going to send her to live with her aunt in Ireland for the summer.  Nita of course doesn't exactly want to go, but doesn't have much choice in the matter.  Once she arrives however things start to get hetic really quickly.

The first day she's there she hears "ghosts" outside of her caravan and her aunt tells her that they're nothing to worry about.  However, as the days go by she finds that the ghosts are actually her stepping into alternate versions of the world, and that if something isn't done soon, Ireland is going to end up going into the sea.

Thoughts:

I really liked the fact that this book pretty much says "if it's your responsability, you can't escape it".  I mean, her parents are trying to get her away from Wizardry and she ends up getting involved in (yet another) assignment.

I also loved the fact that there was a bit more of a romantic feel to the book!  Sadly, not with the person I wanted Nita to get with, but at least it addresses that side of things.  (Although, I do have to say that Rohan sounds pretty dang cute!)

Not much else to say really.  It's a great book, and as I get further into the series I love it more and more.

Title: High Wizardy (Book Three in the Young Wizards series)
Author: Diane Duane
Pages: 280
Level: Young Teen
Rating: 12+

Plot:

Nita's little sister has always been too smart for her own good, but this time she might have gone too far.  However, Dairine is distracted by the arrival of her new computer.  However, while she's setting it up she accedently creates an exact replica.  Thinking quickly, she hides the second one in another form of space, to retreave later.

After she's sent into the city with Nita and Kit, she hides in the bathroom, and retreaves the computer, deciding to take a jaunt to Mars -- thus starting her Wizard Ordeal.  Once Nita finds out, she and Kit are sent after her to help out as they can.

Thoughts:

The computer!!!  Oy, the computer *weeps with horror*  it's so OLD!!!

I actually didn't like this one as much.  I mean, it was great to see Dairine's thoughts and the reason WHY she's always trying to be so smart, but over all, I didn't like it as much.  I mean, things like the fact that K&N help Dairine on her wizards ordeal bugs me.  It seemed to me those were supposed to be the type of tests that you couldn't get help on.  Granted the important part of the main conflict they don't help with, but still.

Title: Deep Wizardy (Book Two of the Young Wizards series)
Author: Diane Duane
Pages: 330
Level: Young Teen
Rating: 12+

Plot:

It's been a few months since Kit and Nita's wizard's ordeal, and they've gone on vacation to the beach.  While there they help a beached sperm whale heal from an injudery she got from a whaleing boat, and then the aditional injuries she got when sharks sensed blood in the water.  After doing so they discover that S'reee is working on originizing a wizard ceremony called "The Song of the Twelve" which is a re-enactment of an event that happened in the sea where the main wizards were approached by the Lone One and offered a gift.  One of the whales, called The Silent One, agreed to the gift knowing that it was in fact a trick, and thus sealed the Lone Power away.  Well, in hopes of helping Nita agrees to play a part in the ceremony, and get into a situation that is slightly larger than she realized.

Thoughts:

Well, I certianly have to say I liked how much more of a romantic plot there was to this one.  Kit's protectiveness was just so awesome!  I expecially loved the scene where the first thing Ed said to him wasn't about Kit himself but rather Nita.

As for the rest, it was pretty good.  I thought it was kind of slow paced with most of the book being "go and get this person to agree, and then go get this person as well" for like three days, as well as the whole "Uh-oh, I'm going to get in trouble again" thing going on.  Although, I do have to say I liked the scene where Nita finally tells her parents what's really going on.  Over all I thought it was pretty good.

Title: So You Want to be a Wizard?  (Book One of the Young Wizards series)
Author: Diane Duane
Pages: 301
Level: Young teen
Rating: 12+ (I think there's some swearing in it)

Plot:

While trying to avoid getting beat up yet again 13 year old Nita hides in the children's section of her local library.  Looking over the books like an old friend she comes across one she doesn't remember having seen before titled "So You Want to be a Wizard".  As she reads it she finds it a manuel for becoming a wizard.  After reading the warnings about what it's like to be a wizard, and that she would be tested before she could start her real training, she takes the Wizards Oath.

The next day she meets Kit, a boy a year younger than her, who's had a little bit more time with wizardry.  Together they try doing a spell that sucks them into an alternate universe.  To get away they end up summoning a white dwarf who insists that he needs to talk to an advisory wizard to let them know that "The Book of Night with Moon" -- the book that contains all the information to hold the universe together -- has been stolen!

When a spell the following day goes awry, Kit and Nita find themselves plunged into their ordeal -- and having to get the stolen book back in order to keep their world alive.

Thoughts:

This is a really simple book, with a really great plot.  It has been a long time since the last time I had read it, so I went into it remember a couple of the more major scenes in vauge details, but nothing big.

I ended up reading about three fourths of the book my first night, giggling through most of that time... what with Fred getting hiccups that cause things to pop out of nowhere (which, sometimes my hiccups feel like they should do), and everything else I was really enjoying it.

The plot was really great.  While being designed for younger audiences (with sadly very little romance going on.  I remember being slightly annoyed with the lack when I first read it.  However, it is addressed in the later books) it doesn't talk down to them.  Rather it makes people think about the world around them, and want to be a bit more aware without seeming preachy.   Over all, I thought it was a really great book.

Title: The Otherworldlies
Author: Jennifer Anne Kogler
Pages: 383 (may change)
Level: Young teen
Rating: 8+

Basic Plot:

Fern has always been different.  Her first set of teeth were a set of sharp canines.  When she wakes up in the morning, she has to wear sunglasses so her eyes can wake up as well, and most days if she's out in the sunlight her body turn into one giant blister.  Because of this she's "freaky fern" around her private school, and even the princaple doesn't like her.

Her entire world is turned upside durning class one day.  She's sitting at her desk, reading a copy of "Lord of the Flies", imagining what it's like to be on the beach, when suddenly the entire world goes black.  When she can finally see again, she's on the beach where her family goes to visit every once in a while.  A crazy beach bum tells her he's been waiting for her, and to go into a cave.  When she does she finds a strage room in the back that she hasn't seen before.

After this her life is turned upside down, and between having a hard time controlling when she teleports, to finding out there's a prophesy hanging over her head that she'll defeat a man who thinks he's the next Dracula, the only good thing is finding out she's not the only one, and actually having a friend.  But what is the deal with everyone else?

Thoughts:

The books was really hard to get into at first.  By page 17 I think the author had forshadowed that Fern wasn't going to be going home from school in the usual way at least three or four times.  There's a bit too much world building at the beginning as well.  However once she actually gets into the plot it's pretty good.  There's a scene at one point where Fern does something and her new friend doesn't understand, and it's really realistic reaction for 12 year old girls.  However, there's a lot of things that they have to look up on the internet that I think most kids their age would know already (such as what teleporting is).  Over all the book is okay.  It would be great for someone around the age of the characters to read.

It was annouced today that the Presedent of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) Gordon B. Hinkley died today at 7 p.m. at his house.  He was surrounded by his family and loved ones.

This man did many great things for our church, such as building more temples than any other Pres. has done.  He also was famious for a while because he agreed to be interviewed on national tv.

I hope that he rests well, and knows we all loved and will miss him.

Title: Winter of Fire
Author: Sherryl Jordan
Pages:
Level: Young teen
Rating: 13+ (Swearing, some violence)

Basic Plot:

Elsha is of the Quelled, a people forced to spend every day going down into mines to get the firestone so they Chosen can live comfortable lives.  It's always cold, and there's never a sun in the sky.  She has a spirit all her own, and is known for disobaying the traditions of her people, and speaking of rebellion.  She also dreams of meeting the greatest being in their world -- The Firelord.  He is the only man who can devine and find the firestone which keeps their fires going.

On her sixteenth birthday she takes her time in gathering firestone, and thus falls short.  As a punishment she's told she will make up what she didn't bring as well as her usual load -- an amount meant to kill.  But it doesn't matter to the Chosen, because to them she is just a harsha  -- a being who has no mind, and lives only to work.

In the early morning before what she thinks will be the day of her death she takes a path through the gardens and grabs some food to eat.  Looking over at the mouth of the mine she realizes she's early, and enjoys a few minutes to herself.  In doing so she senses a power pulsing through her.  Thinking it's God she starts talking, and attracts the attention of a man.  He comes to her and tells her she has been chosen to be the Firelord's handmaiden.  The only problem is this is an honor reserved for only the highest of the chosen women, not a slave girl.

However, the firelord stands firm, and she travels with him as his handmaiden, facing and destroying the prejudices built over years, trying to help her people.

Thoughts:

I first read this book because my best friend in Jr. High fell in love with the poem/song at the end of the first part, and suggested the entire book to me.  I have since read it so many times I've lost track.  It's an easy read, with little mention of adult themes beyond saying that Elsha will never have "covering" and a small make out scene between her and her love where she stops them before they're more than half dressed.

It does deal with prejudices and foolish beliefs quite a bit.

It's a really easy read, and I could have finished it in one sitting if I had the option.

Extras:

Nothing that I was able to find.  No fan art or fanfiction that I could find either.

Title: Mistborn: The Final Empire
Author: Brandon Sanderson
Pages: 541
Level: Teen-Adult
Rating: 15+ (Swearing, Extreme Volence, Hinting of Rape)

Basic Plot:

The book starts by introducing you to the world, a place where there's an under people who are treated worse than slaves. Then you learn about Vin, who is a sixteen year old teen who lives with a theving crew. She's extremely untrusting, and nervious. Her crewleader has her come with him to try and do a scam, so she'll use her "luck" to push the guy into doing what they want.

The point of view then switches to Kelsier who is a sort of crewleader himself. One of the members of his crew takes him to watch Vin, who they think may be someone special. As they're following Vin and her crewleader back, they see one of the worst things of the empire follows them: A steel inquisitor. This creature is something to be feared. Their most noticable feature is the fact that their eyes don't exsist anymore. Instead they have a set of steel spikes that are pounded the entire way through their heads. Kelsier distracts the inquisitor, and then goes to convince Vin into joining his crew so he can teach her how to use her "luck", or as it's better know Allomancy. She agrees, and then finds out what Kelsier plans on having his entire crew doing: Overthrowing the Final Empire.
Thoughts:

This magic system is one of the most unique ones I've ever seen. You can do diffrent things -- controlling emotions, see the future, move objects and yourself -- by "burning" metals. You get to see both the advantages and disadvantages of magic.

There are quite a few gruseum points to the book, one of the main being the idea of the Inquisitors. There is also a lot of killing without a second thought, and prejudices.

It's a really easy book to read. As with his first book, when I read it I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. I had gone to a release party where he said he liked to do suprise endings, and thought he might have over done it with this book. However, I disagree. In this book I saw very little of what was going to happen, and the twist at the end ASTOUNDED ME!

There is one part that is extreamly sad, and of course the first time I bawled my eyes out. I re-read it for a second time at the beginning of this week, and I cried yet again, which highly impressed me because I usually don't cry the second time since I'm expecting it.

I can't wait for the next two books in the series to come out. While the end of the book was satisfying, it still left the universe wide open for more. (I've also been told this book will have a nice twist added to it, which I can't wait to see the results)

Extras:

You can read the first three chapters and the prolog here. You can also read the author's thoughts on the book. Brandon Sanderson has also created a wallpaper inspired by the trilogy which you can find here.

Book Title: Elantris
Author: Brandon Sanderson
Pages: 512
Level: Teen-Adult
Rating: PG (Some swearing, violence)

Basic Plot:

In the prolog you find out about Elantris and the people of the city.  They were randomly chosen, and when they were they're apperance changed, and they were able to use the magic.  They're power and rule seemed to last forever, but ten years before the story starts, something happened and the magic stopped.

The actual book then starts by the crowned prince Raoden waking up to find he had been taken by the shaod.  His hair had fallen out, and his skin had gone from a healthy color to a dull color with black bloches.  He is then taken to the fallen city of Elantris to live with the others of his kind.  While there he makes a deal with one of the other enhabitants -- Galladon -- to show him around.

The next chaper introduces you to the Princess Sarane, the fiancee of Raoden, who she steps off the ship to find is dead.  Well, their marriage contract states that if either of them dies before the wedding they are instantly declaired married.  She stays in the kingdom to continue the treaty.  She then decides that she is going to keep herself enertain herself by finding out what the final character you follow is doing.

The final character is a priest in a religion which is trying to take over the world, who has been told he has three months to convert the entire populace to his ways or else they would be killed.

Thoughts:

As with all of Brandon Sanderson's books, the magic system is complex, and you learn all about the way it works.  The characters are likeable, but not perfect, and that fact is brought out.  The first time I read it, I didn't really understand what was going on, and yet at the same time I did.  Depsite this fact, I enjoyed the book.  I couldn't stop reading it!  And the twist ending was AMAZING!  While I expected some things, other parts of it suprised me so much.  And I read it a second time recently, and it was just as good.

Extras:

You can read the pro-log, and the first three chapters here.  Also on that website you can view the author's thoughts while writing the book.  There's also a short story which you can purcahse here for less than a dollar.

Okay, so there's going to be a change in plans from now on.  Rather than me using this strictly for quiz posts, I'm going to be using it for reviews of all of the books that I read, so I have a place to send people to when they want my suggestions.

You'll see the first one soon.

Okay, so I'm sitting here going through deviantart, and I've decided I'm going to create a list of movies I think every single person should see at least once in their life.  I have seen all of them, and love the plots.  (And yes, a lot of them are my all time faves.  I wouldn't suggest it if I didn't like it would I?)

Some of these may be a movie that has to do with a series, in which case I also suggest you watch the series, but I'll try to avoid those.

These aren't in any order, just as they come to my mind I'm writing them in.

Mirrormask
Dark Crystal
Labyrinth
Slipper and the Rose
Theif and the Cobler
Lady and the Highwayman
Court Jester
A Fairy Tale
Almost Human
Teen Witch
Anything by Mayazaki
Tristian and Islode
Neverending Story
Exclaibur
Rigaletto
Lord of the Dance
Princess Bride
Any version of "The Nutcracker" which actually explains how the prince became a nutcracker
Clue
As much Sheakspear as you can handle
The Last Unicorn
Thorn Birds

Okay, so that's all I can think of for right now.  But it will continue to grow as I think of them... and will stop growing when it's perfect, I'm dead, or I forget about the account that I've posted it to.  (The last two of which are the more likely choices.)  If you haven't seen any of these, go out and rent them or download them.  (You can't download Slipper, nor would I let you.  It's a super old one that doesn't get enough credit, so I tell everyone to put money into it so it will get the support it deserves.  The others... well, I'm sure you'd love them enough to buy them after you had gotten them.)

Seriously though, go watch these.   There's a bit of pure romantic stuff (Slipper), sad sad stuff (Tristan and Ilsode), pure fluffy funny (Clue, Theif and the Cobler), and some stuff I doubt you've seen but I know you'd love (MirrorMask).  Oh, and be forwarned that Exclaibur is slightly... not child meant.  Lots of fighting, lots of gore, and my mum previewed it and told me when to just skip to the next scene.  Other than that, great movie.

Okay, so I'm having issues with this thing... it's not giving me the option of copying the code into everything, so I'm having to copy the pics and paste them in.  Forgive?  If you want to take the quiz, click on the pic, I've made those links.

I'd like to appologize to anyone who talks to me or knows me.  Expecially right now...  I'm going through some really deep thinking about who I am and the way that I behave currently, and you may be seeing a major change in the way I act in the very near future.

This is mostly in a direct result of a lot of people really not liking the main part of me, and being forced to face this fact (yet again) and trying to fight it and change it.  I usually fail, and give up and then go back to the way I was, but trust me, I'm going to try my hardest this time, because as I see it no one really likes it... they all pretend to, but they really don't.

If you know me even half-way well, I'm sure you can guess what I'm talking about.  If you know me well... I'm beyond sure you can guess...  I just... I want to change.

I don't know how else to discribe it.  My thoughts aren't very coherant right now... and of course you'll be able to tell how everything turns out...  wish me luck.  (Although whether it's to be able to change or not I've not the foggiest.)

Okay, so as many of you who know me know (which, very few do... like, maybe two) I absolutely love fantasy stuff... mostly books.  And one of my top five Author is Brandon Sanderson.  He's kind of local, but dang can he write!!!

Well, right now he's got a book posted on his website (clickie-clickie here to start reading the book.  It's compleatly free, and just as good as his other two.) which I of course jumped on the chance to read... and am now very frustrated about.  You see, one of the great things about his writing is that he really sucks you in, and has lots of plot twists that YOU NEVER SEE COMING.  And this last chapter (as all good chapter endings do) left you at a piviotal point, and you're freaking out!!!

I now can't freaking wait for his next post so I can freaking read the next thing.  (Although, knowing my luck it will be from Blushweaver's PoV about the freaking war.  :P on him if it is!)  Anywho, that's enough of my rant... although you guys really should read his work.  It's so beyond amazing it's not even funny!

Anywho, off to post the news in DeviantArt.  (Most likely copy and paste truth be told.)

Okay, so I doubt any of you will actually try this, but here's a sweet game you can play... and I bet you can't figure out how it works.  (I know...  tee hee)

Drat!!! The actual post thing isn't working... I'll have to give you a link to the site:

http://www.i-am-bored.com/bored_link.cfm?link_id=8351

I am making an FFR level based on the song Phantom of the Opera.  I think it's going really well... and if any of you want to play it when I get done, you're welcome to... I hope you like it!  *looks hopeful*

How do you handle Embarassment?

You use humor to shake off embarrassing situations (even when you're dying inside) and help other people recover, too. Not that you won't snort milk when your BFF drops her tray in the caf! But, hey, at least you deflected the attention away from her and onto you! Kudos for your confidence and charm, girl!

What type of style do you have?

Fashion Freestyler. Good for you! You seem to have found the perfect balance between fashion and personal style. If you like what's in style, you wear it. But you are sooooo not wearing leggings just because they’re in this fall. That said, it’s always fun to experiment. Don’t be afraid to try new looks and give them your own spin. Confidence is always in style.

What type of Rocker are you?

You cringe at even being labeled a PUNK, because labels just aren't cool. But there's no denying the truth. Clothes are not that big of a deal to you, and black eyeliner is the only cosmetic touch-up you carry with you. You crush on all the indie power-pop bands, even though you think a few of them are poseurs. (Hey, they're better than boy bands!) You'd spend every night in an underground club if you could, and the sound of an electric guitar makes you giddy. You'd rather wear boy boxers than a thong. Guys are great as long as they don't try to dictate your life and pizza beats a fancy restaurant any day. You believe you can get what you want by being yourself and that's exactly what you’ll do.

How Star-Struck are you?

You sometimes have your famous guy on your mind a bit too often, but you keep the reality of the situation in check. Occasional daydreaming about your crush is harmless, as long as it doesn’t interfere with your schoolwork or other important activities. You seem to see the big picture and seem to realize that there are thousands of fans out there, just like you. You don’t let your crush come between you and your everyday life, so it seems as though you can have your cake and eat it, too. You can keep your crush, but don’t get too starry-eyed!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've decided that you all can ask me questions.  Anything at all, and I'll answer it!!!  Just post it in a comment...

I'm just kind of testing my newest program... *crosses fingers* wish me luck and let me hope it works.  If it does, I'll let you all know what it is and how to get it... if it doesn't, then I won't.  Logical, no?

Ha ha!!!  It looks like it did!!!  I am currently using Window Live Writer (Beta).  It's this wonderful little program that is letting me blog.  Now if only I could figure out how to freaking let me connect to my opendiary accounts I'd be super duper happy.  I would love to use this thing for writing stories things in my firstRainbowRose account!

Also, I would love to figure out how to get this American Girls Premiere thing to save in a format that ISN'T .ply.  If I could figure that out I'd be making some SWEET fan mvs.  *cries*  But I can't... *super pout*

Zippidy, your subconscious mind is driven most by Love

Everyone has a desire to love. But your desire is rooted very deeply in your unconscious and affects many of the decisions you make in life — whether you are aware of it or not.

You have an energy about you that inspires people to experience their true feelings of love and act kindly towards others. In this way, you and your drive for loving relationships start a chain reaction of positive experiences.

The reason you are driven by love, may be because your unconscious is trying to avoid the opposite of love — hate. You, more than others, may be afraid of experiencing severe discord with others. That may, in turn, heavily influence your choices about relationships and the way you communicate your ideas, wants, and desires to others.

With such a strong orientation towards loving others, your relationships hold a very special place in your life. Your capacity to love may be greater than those around you, and therefore you may have more to give in relationships than your romantic partner does. Remember that this is a gift you have and one most others don't possess.

Though your unconscious mind is driven most strongly by Love, there is much more to who you are at your core.
